What you see matters – scar or beauty, blemishes or uniqueness. It is all about perspective. Many of us carry scars that we are ashamed of. They may be physical scars, emotional scars, mental scars, or other unpleasant experiences that linger. For some, it is a past they would rather not talk about. For some, a physical scar that you have been covering or hiding from the world. For others, it could be an emotional burden you have carried for so long. In my book NYTA, I shared my personal struggle with physical scars that left me living a life of cover-up for most of my adolescent and early adult life. To hide my physical blemishes, I ended up hiding a lot more than that. I hid my personality and my uniqueness, the very essence of who God made me to be. My real sense of worth was hidden behind the shadow of insecurity and lack of self-confidence that had consumed me. For a long time, I was not living; I was merely existing, and it is a terrible place to be. Perhaps, you may be in that place of hiding or cover up like I was, covering up your scars and the very things that make you unique because of what people may say or how people may perceive you. But did you know that there is purpose even in your scars? Did you know that those very scars you are covering up could be the hidden beauty that sets up your unique story? Embracing your scars could help encourage someone else to come out from hiding and unleash their beauty. Choosing to embrace your scars starts with you. It starts with knowing. Knowing that, regardless of your scars, you have been uniquely made for purpose on purpose. And God who has made you can make something beautiful out of your scars and make that source of shame a source of glory and beauty. Surrender those scars to Jesus and ask God to make something beautiful out of them! Speak this over yourself: I am done with the hiding. No more cover ups. Let the beauty in me be unleashed! P.S. I send out this newsletter once weekly to help you step into the extraordinary life in Christ. I invite you to share this Newsletter with the people you know who may be encouraged by NYTA’s message. For those ready to step deeper into trust, surrender, and dependence on God... With love and gratitude, |

Relying on one’s own ability and creativity is a recipe for living below your potential. Know the fuel that powers your extraordinary existence! A few years ago, when I got the inspiration to begin my fashion line, High + Title, formerly called OYÈ Collection, I questioned how in the world it would be a reality, considering my lack of experience in this area. I knew that to be a fashion designer, I needed a way to translate the designs I had in my head into drawings on paper before I could...
We live in a culture where we consume more than we create. Yet, each one of us has been created with unique qualities, attributes and creative gifts that -- if unleashed -- would bring flavor and joy to the world. When I obtained my Doctoral degree as a healthcare professional, though it was a great accomplishment that anyone should be proud of, I couldn’t help but recognize the dissatisfaction I still felt. I thought to myself: this couldn’t possibly be all there is to me. In my state of...
The beauty about submitting our plans and vision to God is that there is no limit to how far they can go with Him. Oftentimes, the only limit on our vision is the limit we place on it. But when we give God the open check to do whatever He wants with our plans, we are in for a ride. Is it always going to be easy and smooth sailing? No. Far from it. In fact, there will be days where you might question how you will ever make it through. There might be days where you feel like you are going...
